Power Supply for a 10 Year Old Dell Dimension XPS System
It all started when I wanted to upgrade a monitor (from a traditional CRT to flat panel one) on my almost 10 year old Dell Dimension XPS desktop system, and had to upgrade the video card from an ATI RagePro 128 to a nVidia FX5200 (also bought on Amazon) to accomodate the flat panel monitor, which the ATI graphics card could not. While the nVidia graphics card could have worked with my original power supply unit (PSU), the manufacturer recommened that a minimum 250W PSU. Since my Dell Dimension XPS desktop has the proprietary connectors, I had no other choice but to go with the Startech 33W PSU, that was made specifically for Dell, and it worked out well, and for the short term, because I will be upgrading my desktop over the next few months. The only thing that I did not like was when the silicon gel pack was broken, but the PSU itself was in tact, and had no problem installing it in less than an hour.
