Hunter Refurbished Highbury 52" White Ceiling Fan with Light | HR28714

Fan/Light is in default state off on remote - do not recommend purchase
Disclaimer: I bought this at HomeDepot not amazon

The fan is nice looking, seems to be built well but I wrote this review as a warning...

This Fan/Light is in default state "off" on the remote - so I do not recommend purchasing it

What this means is that if you turn off the light/fan with a wall switch you will then have no choice but to turn it back on with the remote

I confirmed this with Hunter who said:
The remote control system has been designed so that the default is for the light to remain off once power is restored at the wall switch. The default cannot be overridden. We recommend leaving the light switch on at all times and using the remote control for all fan/light operation.

Ok.. very very poor design decision. why?

One day while in the room with the fan, you decide to turn up the speed (or down) you grab the remote, make the change, put the remote down, leave the room... "oops, I shut off the fan/light...

Attractive, but not worthy of the Hunter name
We've been fans of Hunter's ceiling fans for decades. We own several at the moment, and have one oil-bath model we love so well we moved it from one house to another. They've been models of quality, dependability and superb function, ... until this one.

Its main unit and blades are attractive, at least. And we're also happy we didn't pay as much as is being asked here on Amazon - that big box store with the same initials as the famous American motorcycle maker sells this model for about 35% less. But that's about the most good we can say. The first one we bought was defective. This, of course, was not discovered until we'd done the full installation. We've installed a couple dozen such fans, and this one was probably the most convoluted install ever. Like at least one other Hunter we own, this one uses a remote control. But not at all like that other unit, this one requires the consumer to install the receiver for the remote! You must connect five wires from a device about...
